Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic as well as a public speaker, and Canadian. She founded Feminist Frequency the site with videos and guest posts on the representations of women in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and American feminist media critique. Feminist Frequency explores how women are represented in the popular culture. Alongside working to expose the issues surrounding the harassment and targeted attacks on women, others of minority groups in the online world, she is dedicated to breaking down stereotypes that are in the popular culture. Sarkeesian holds a bachelor's degree in political thought and social theory at York University. She is also an internationally acclaimed public speaker. Sarkeesian delivered speeches to the TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group. She has been interested in gender issues and feminism from a very young stage of her life. In 2009, while continuing to study at the university level, she created the Feminist Frequency website. An ambitious woman who wanted to start a web-series examining the gender-based representation in video games, she was targeted by an internet-based campaign. However, the attacks did not discourage her. It only strengthened her as a feminist journalist. The award-winning journalist has received numerous accolades for her numerous notable contributions to the field of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian, a media journalist who has received numerous awards and created Feminist Frequency which is an educational non-profit that examines the way women are depicted in popular culture narratives.
