Guarnaschelli was the daughter of Maria Guarnaschelli, and John Guarnaschelli. She graduated in 1991 from Barnard College with an art studies degree in history. A year later, she earned a minimum salary at an American Place in 1991. Guarnaschelli began her cooking career in the kitchen with help from her mother, helping make a number of dishes and making edits to books. Guarnaschelli began her training with Larry Forgione, whose son Marc Forgione is Iron Chef Marc Forgione. She then worked in various restaurants across France, New York, and Los Angeles including Guy Savoy's La Butte Chaillot. Prior to joining Butter the restaurant, she served as executive chef in the Patina restaurant, owned by Daniel Boulud and at Joachim Splichal's Patina. She was the executive chef of the Darby restaurant before its closing. She serves as chairperson of the Museum of Food and Drink's Culinary Council. Guarnaschelli launched her first cookbook in 2013. "Old Home Comfort Food: How I Learned To Cook" contains autobiographical information and favorite recipes that Guarnaschelli has adapted from her professional career. Jamie Jamie Jamie
